Up on the Roof
The story of a family of seagulls: Pegasus the mother seagull, Nelson the father seagull and their three young chicks. How protective the parents are of their young, able to care and nourish them as they grow. The weeks before they are due to fly the nest, a disobedient chick doesn’t listen to his mother Pegasus and father Nelson. Much like human families, where mothers and fathers, parents, guardians play a crucial role in bringing a family up, lessons have to be learned and rules have to be followed. When you are young this can seem harsh at times, but it is done out of love for the safety of a young family. It is only when we are older and wiser that we can fully understand the sacrifices that parents make. The importance of family and the love which grows when we are young and into adulthood. Staying together as a family can be hugely rewarding as grandchildren enter the family.
I hope in some way that children can read this book and understand the values of family through the eyes of the seagull family. After all, what is more comforting than coming home to your family where the home is full of love and you feel safe?
